Zappturday: On the subject of eating

To look at Zapp, you would think that we never feed her. Ever.

To watch Zapp encounter the prospect of being fed, you would think we never feed her. Also ever.

Currently Shooter gets one scoop of food at each feeding (morning and night). Zapp, on the other hand, gets two scoops at each feeding. Below you’ll see a video of her eating. I made her wait a full two minutes after Shooter got his food, just to give you a frame of reference.

Observe:

Notice her ribs? That’s because she sucks in her stomach the entire time she eats, never chewing, constantly swallowing. You also saw her going over to Shooter to see if he had anything left over. All of this is typically followed up by a manly burp.Because of her, the dog food must be locked away - if she found it, she would eat until her guts exploded.

We conclude this chapter of Zappturday with an insanely cute photo, documenting Zapp resting up for a hard day of sleeping and being cute. Enjoy!

  1. Oh, she IS adorable!

Ben is pretty skinny, too, but he’s the opposite of Zapp when it comes to eating. His food sits out all day and he just nibbles at it when he gets hungry. He mostly thinks his food (no matter what kind we give him!) is The Most Boring Food In The World so only eats it when absolutely necessary. I once asked the vet if she thought he was too skinny (Thinking “How in the world am I going to get this dog to eat more if she says I need to?”) but she said he was at a perfect weight for his age/breed/etc. So, he may be skinny, but at least he’s vet-approved!

How did Zapp get her name?
