What I’m listening to

etc. — Valerie on May 12, 2010 at 8:48 pm

I’m not really a “music person.” Sure, I enjoy it, but I’m not someone who needs to have it on in background or would even list it as an “interest.” Despite coming from a very musical family, it’s just not in me. (That thump you just heard was my father falling over and dying from disappointment. He’ll leave a comment and deny it, but it was him.)

But! From time to time, I do become mildly obsessed with a particular artists and try to listen to everything he or she has done. My current love right now is Regina Spektor.

I have no idea if this makes me hip or lame or nondescript, but I recently found myself fine tuning a Pandora station to focus on her. I can’t help myself. Consequently, her songs are in my head pretty much all the time these days. Now some of them will be in yours.

I’d love to hear what you’re listening to.

  1. I love her! I went through a phase of listening to her all the time after the newest ben fold’s album came out. (Who is probably one of my absolute favorites, my husband and I danced to the luckiest at our wedding.)

  2. I love her, too! The song with Ben Folds (love, love, love him, too) is also one of my current favorites.

Right now I’m kind of obsessed with Neko Case and the new stuff from Rufus Wainwright.

  4. I am head over heels in love with the song she does with Ben Folds. I put in on repeat until I start getting nasty looks from people around me.

Right now my obsession is She & Him. It’s such a neat sound, like a combo Indie/50′s female singers/County. Really amazing stuff. And for ever and always, Band of Horses. Oh my goodness, Band of Horses.

  6. Sorry you heard me falling over — didn’t mean to make such a loud noise. I didn’t die of disappointment, however, because I know you’re lying about music not being in you. I’ve heard you sing, and I know it’s in there somewhere. Can’t say I’m crazy about Regina Spektor, but what do you expect from someone who’s Pandora stations include the likes of the King’s Singers, the Tallis Scholars, and Chanticleer?
