I’m still working on Jack’s birth story. Hey, 20 hours of labor (14 of which were done with absolutely no pain medication thankyouverymuch) is a lot to cover. Plus, it’s difficult to put the single most defining moment of your life into words.

Ross is amazing. I knew he would be a wonderful father, but I didn’t realize how being a father would make him an even more incredible husband. Example? He had to go by himself to a pharmacy he had never heard of to rent a breast pump and didn’t even once hesitate or complain. It almost brought me to tears.

Recovery from the surgery is going pretty well. I still have moments where I’m rendered immobile by soul-crushing stinging sensations, but those are starting to be few and far between.

We went to the pediatrician yesterday because Jackson was a bit jaundice when we left the hospital on Thursday. Everything looked great and the nurses all lost their collective sh*t over how big/cute this kid is. They were also quite impressed with his weight gain. At birth he tipped the scales at 10 lbs. 2 1/2 oz., and left the hospital weighing about 9lbs. 6 oz. Yesterday he was 9lbs. 13 oz. That’s 7 oz. in two days. My boobs are taking complete credit for this.

Nursing is going pretty well overall. It’s definitely a hard process. Jackson is such a hoss that he’s hard to keep up with at times, and his latch is, shall we say, enthusiastic? Luckily the lactation consultant at the hospital gave me some good techniques to get us started.

Jackson is also a great sleeper and not super fussy. He gives us a decent stretches of rest before turning into  squawking dinosaur begging for food and is even content to spend time cooing and looking around with a stunned expression for several minutes at a time so I can go to the bathroom or brush my teeth. What a charmer.

That’s all I’ve got for now. Until next time, here’s a picture of the not-so-wee one:

  1. Yeah, Thea used to sleep. Just wait until Jackson sits in your lap for an hour practicing new sounds. Tonight it was “Hah. Hah. Hah. Hah. Hah. Hah. Hah. Hah. Hah. Hah. Hah. Hah. Hah. Hah. Hah. Hah. Hah. Hah. Hah. Hah. Hah. Hah. Hah. Hah. Hah. Hah. Hah. Hah. Hah. Hah. Hah. Hah. Hah. Hah. Hah. Hah. Hah.” Over and over and over again. Seriously cute!

  2. Those cheeks are killing me!

Glad nursing is going well. It is really hard, harder than I ever expected it to be. Hang in there. It really does get easier. And it eventually stops hurting so dang much. At least until the teeth come. Ouch!

I’m glad you seem to be recovering so well.

Enjoy those stretches of sleep! I hope they last. :-)

I love people’s (people who know you) reactions when I tell them that you carried a 10lb. baby. :)
