One doesn't *become* a Southern lady. You either are, or you're not. No amount of acclimation will make up for a lack of upbringing based on bare feet, good manners, and the mastery of puddling rather than sweating.

Don't stress over an episiotomy. It is actually not that common anymore. Doctors have found that babies and moms actually do better without them. They seem to only do them now when the baby is larger than expected, or something else needs to be used to help get the baby out (forceps or vacuum).

Poor Valerie, with preggers hormones. Those SUCK sometimes. I screamed at my hubby over a kitchen towel. He threw it on the sink, I wanted it folded JUST SO. It had never bothered me before, but it bothered me that day. It gets better.

Also, if you have any questions at all about BFing, all I can say is "Best Beginnings, Best Beginnings, Best Beginnings."

In addition to station 19 (on Maple, btw), you can go to Station 17 in southside (Bainbridge and 30th) or Station 14 in northside (Chamberlayne and...um...Brookland Park? Across from Walgreens. It's early.). Call ahead if you can (numbers are in the blue pages) and if you want to be nice you can avoid the noon and six-ish hours.

Don't worry about the Cheerios! They are full of iron, fiber, folic acid and low in fat. If you have to eat a cereal - that is the one. Plus, your little one will eat their weight in cheerios as a first finger food. You're just getting a head start.

The fire station is on Maple. Excellent people.

Don't worry about the baby "stuff" - you'll learn after you have every baby gadget in the known world that all you really need are the very basics. Babies come into the world only needing you.

I also have a breast pump you my have...a Medela Pump-n-Go. Not the latest in technology but still working. Or you can rent one on the cheap from the hospital (or sometimes a local pharmacy) for the first few weeks...those rock.

Everything is good! You are good. The baby is good and Ross sounds just fine.

Cheers, little mamma.

When you're on the Power List, car seats are a snap. Try the fire station one block west of Libbie off of Grove (Granite Avenue, maybe?). They check to make sure they're in correctly, and if you're curious about fire trucks they'll put it in for you. I had to get a friend to run by and get ours installed two days after Thea was born, and didn't get one in the second car for a month. I just made Nikole walk everywhere with her in a sling...

If you aren't 100% resolved about the carseat, here's a suggestion: Save some money and get this one to hold you over for a while. Peg Perego stuff is really highly rated for safety - and Italian! Being a cheapskate, I researched which was best in the various babystuff reviews and found it for cheap. I Craigslisted a stroller/carseat combo. The stuff is great. Also, you won't need a stroller for the first six months, just a "snap'n'go" (second link).
