My “did do” list
I realize that as the mother of a wee babe (chronologically speaking, not physically) people aren’t expecting much from in the arena of getting things done. And I appreciate that. However, life is still happening and I still need to be able to accomplish the occassional task from time to time. But I’ve also realized that trying to make a to do list for the day is just setting myself up for feelings of inaqequacy. So I’ve decided that for the first few weeks of me figuring this whole sustaining someone else’s life thing – particularly those first days in which Ross has gone back to work – I’m going to go with sharing my “did do” list. And I must say, I’m quite impressed with what I did do on my first day of doing this whole baby thing solo.
So here’s today’s list…
- I got myself and Jackson up at the correct time so we could accomplish feeding, showering, and dressing in time to get Ross to work before lunch.
- I went to the bank with Jackson in tow, made a deposit, had a conversation with the teller, and no one cried, exploded, or perished.
- I folded and put away a basket of clothes.
- Jackson and I arrived to his pediatrician appointment EARLY where he weighed in at a stellar 10lbs., 11 oz.
- I ate a lunch consisting of protein, dairy, AND fruit.
- I sent a couple emails having to do with RVANews and even jumped back in to posting in the Op/Ed section, something that’s part of my actual job.
- Jackson and I picked Ross up from work at the predetermined time, despite SOMEONE having soaked through his diaper, a T-shirt, and a sleeper during his pre-pick-up-Dad nap.
- Called the auto shop about finally scheduling the repair work on the damage left by the effing hit and run bastards.
- I am writing this post.
I think that’s an excellent start. I must say, however, that I am completely exhausted. But I feel like a real person again, so I’ll take it.

Good for you! Sounds like you are getting lots accomplished! I had to comment because I also live in Richmond and I have been hit and run twice since I moved here three years ago (within a 6 month period). I mean, do we not have Geico around here or what? What uninsured bum keeps hitting my car? I got it fixed the first time but I’m not so eager to pay the 200 dollar copay again because it’s NOT MY FAULT! Ok, enough ranting. Jackson is adorable!
This sounds great. Feeling like a real person apart from being a mom is a good thing. You are so brave, and I am amazed at what you’re doing.
Hey, that is a lot! Good job, lady!
