Ink watch 2k8: almost 34 weeks

I know these updates are getting to be much closer together. But, I feel huge. And I will share the hugeness with you. You might not notice much of a difference, but I sure do. Pictures after the jump.

From the front. Watch out for the belly button.

From the back. Other than a little more padding than usual around the sides, I still think it’s pretty hard to tell what’s just on the other side of me. It’s particularly funny when I’m standing in line and suddenly turn to the side - the person behind me usually expresses some kind of shock at my unexpected monstrosity-ness.

(Last week’s pictures)

Let’s talk about weight gain. Are you ready? Because I am.

I started this pregnancy weighing 115 pounds. I now weigh 147 pounds according to my bathroom scale (of course the doctor’s scale will probably put me at 5 pounds more than that). That’s over 30 pounds, and I still have 6 weeks to go - 6 weeks that this baby uses not only for some final stages in lung development, but also to pack on the pounds.

I think the odds of me having a 20 pound baby are pretty slim. I’m interested to see how this weight is distributed once this kid comes out.

I’m feeling, hm well, ok. I had a day last week where I felt INCREDIBLE! and I kept talking about GOOD! I felt. Hope for another day like that is helping me look beyond the swelling feet and hands (wedding rings, we might need to take a break) and the increasing heartburn.

You know what also helps? Last night Ross and I were watching Heroes, and I felt some crazy movement in my belly. I looked down and the kid’s entire body was all the way over on my left side - as in the right side was almost completely flat. I mean, I *know* I’m pregnant and I know what that means, but that was one of the times where it really hit me that there is a person in there that I get to meet very soon. We. Can’t. Wait.

  2. you look awesome.

so much of the weight is fluid. i lost like 20 lbs in the first week after birth. i feel certain the same will be true for you.

hang in there - you’re almost there!

  3. Yeah, you’ll keep up the constant peeing for a few days after the baby comes to shed water, but it’s not like you aren’t used to it. You’ll also get to feel all your innards shifting back to their previous positions over the first couple of days postpartum, which I found to be one of the weirder experiences of pregnancy (and one nobody mentioned). The good thing is that *all* your weight seems to be baby and not padding, so it should go away quickly.

  4. WHAT. Am I going to be sitting there and then suddenly feel my intestines shift around? Why don’t people tell you these things???

  5. Well, you ARE going to be evicting a relatively large volume of baby. I assume you’ve noticed that your bladder and your diaphragm aren’t exactly where they used to be (heh). All the other squishy stuff is shifted aside as well. Both times I birthed I felt extraordinarily hollow in the middle at first, then over the next day or two everything mooooooooved back. It wasn’t like SLAM or anything.

  6. I’d never really thought about it, but Jennifer described it perfectly — I did feel hollow at first. At the time I thought it was just the absence of the giant belly, but this makes sense too.

  7. I think the belly is cute and not HUGE, even though it feels like it. You have that “all baby” look. Not an ounce anywhere by baby…..
