I apparently also never get grossed out. Or I understand where babies come from.

Ever since Knocked Up came out, I’ve been hearing all kinds of hullabaloo about the birth scene. I had visions of blood and gore and horror.

Ross and I finally watched the movie for the first time tonight. As the birth scene approached, I was fully ready to watch it out of the corner of my eye or through my fingers. And before I knew it, it was over. Sure, there were some up-close-and-personal shots, but, how did you *think* it happened? It’s a *person* coming out of a *person.* There are bound to be some not-cute moments involved.

  1. I’ve had the exact same thought! I’m in the process of getting my nursing degree, and I’ll never forget listening to some young thing in my anatomy class say that she “doesn’t do needles…or blood.” Uhm…hello? What did you think nursing was going to be like?

  3. And actually it was really clean and neat. I mean like unrealistically clean and neat. Boys need to man up and get over that kind of thing. How come they are into violent movies but they can’t handle LIFE.

  4. Not too sure — Talk to my wife the NICU nurse - she’s got some stories that will gross out anyone. The one that still gets me — the 300+ lbs lady getting c-section - and pieces of fat hitting folks in the face…

  5. I remember some friends of mine pulling out their “home birth” picture album. I sat there politely viewing spread eagle, butt naked pictures of my hostess, including pictures of the afterbirth. I don’t think I had much to say or eat at dinner that night.

  6. See? I would have understood the uproar if there had been guts.

  7. I agree with Susan, although I don’t know for sure, but I bet the real thing is a lot messier than that.
