Frustrating.
Today, one of my boys called one of my girls the “N” word. Both of them are African American, not that that should make it any less bad. I didn’t even know how to begin to address this, so I had to just send them to the guidance counselor to talk it out. The little girl was crying so much she could barely breathe, but the boy didn’t see any problem with calling her that. Sigh. I hate it when I don’t know what to do.

I have no idea what you could do. Good for you for dumping the problem on a guidance counselor. Make them earn their keep, ha,ha..
Welcome to my world. This sort of thing occurs daily in my classroom. And my black kids (I’ve lost the ability to be PC this year) call my white kids “cracker”. Oh yeah. You were smart to send them to guidance. Our guidance counselor pretty much resides in the 5th grade bc of all the fights, name-calling, knives, threats, etc that we get everyday. When in doubt…go to the counselor.

When did “black” become non-pc? I mean if Wilder calls black people “black” I feel like it is ok.
