Not again. Seriously, please. NOT AGAIN.

baby love, sick — Valerie on October 31, 2008 at 6:50 am

I woke up at around 3am coughing my brains out in response to a very uncomfortable (and very familiar) tightness in my chest.

Yes, it seems that I might actually be sick AGAIN. But this time, I will not a wait a week to take care of it. I’ve already called me regular doctor and put in a request for him to call in another antibiotic. And I really hope he does it because the idea of dragging my hugely pregnant self down to his office and waiting an hour in the waiting room and another 45 minutes in the exam room for him to tell me I’m correct is not exactly what I want to deal with at the moment.

Oh and the coughing combined with the on and off contractions that come with being 38 1/2 weeks pregnant? Also awesome.

*UPDATE*

I didn’t have to go back in to see the doctor, but I did have to wait approximately 9 hours before actually getting someone to do what they said they were going to do. I will pick up some sort of hardcore antibiotic (that is prone to causing nausea and vomiting! yay!) shortly.

Getting holified

I tried to get him to sprinkle water on my belly - you know, like twofer so we could consider the baby already baptized - but he wasn’t into it.

I’m sure most people watching this were thinking, “Please, Lord, don’t let her explode right at this moment because that would be really embarrassing.”

Weekend Wrap up

weekend wrap up — Valerie on October 26, 2008 at 7:30 pm

Friday: Work. Had contractions off and on all day. Thought things might actually be happening. Contractions tapered off in the evening much to my relief as my in-laws were leaving that day for a week-long trip to Mexico. Came home to rest. Took a nap at 8:00pm. Ate leftover Magianno’s for dinner. Watched Part of Sweeney Todd. Fell asleep.

Saturday: Woke up at around 8. Got dressed and went to the farmer’s market and Target to pick up some things. Home to eat and finish watching Sweeney Todd. Took another nap. Puttered around for a ridiculously long time. Finally showered and got dressed for Chris and Emily’s wedding reception. Headed over to Manchester for the party. Had some good chats and snacks. Ended up leaving around 10:00pm because, holy lord, heels and pregnancy do not mix well. Home to change and get into bed. Watched Top 100 Scary Movie Moments on Bravo with the hubs. Fell asleep just before they announced #1. Got woken up by Zapp twice in the middle of the night with her incessant and ear-piercing howls. Took her out the first time. Went downstairs and scolded her the second time. She shut up after that. Was too awake to go right back to sleep. Read some. Finally got back to sleep around 5:30.

Sunday: Slept until 10:00am thanks to my wonderful and considerate husband. Ate and showered. Went to run the bulletins for church and take care of the some other errands. Home. Church where I officially became a member AND got baptized. Home. Quick visit from friends. Doing some work. Dentist appointment tomorrow morning. UGH.

Have a great week!

Contemplating boundaries (and interest)

etc. — Valerie on October 24, 2008 at 4:01 pm

I’m getting an iPhone next week. My contract with Verizon is up, and we’ve decided it will not only be a great belated birthday present, but also quite helpful in keeping me on top of things at work.

Now the question:

To Twitter the birth or not?

You may begin…

A birthday in review

etc. — Valerie on October 24, 2008 at 7:00 am

First, thanks for all of the kind birthday wishes. Internets, you are too sweet.

So, my birthday. Here’s what I did…

1. Woke up and decided I would treat myself to a day of working from home because 1) I kinda felt like crap and 2) the thought of finding a piece of clothing still capable of covering my belly was quite daunting.

2. Worked in bed while watching The Golden Girls.

3. Had numerous IM/email conversations with people in which I freaked out about the baby, insisting that I can’t do this.

4. Got talked down off the ledge during said conversations by some very lovely people.

5. Had a good cry to relieve the tension.

6. Spent the rest of the day oscillating between doing work, going through lots of birthday wishes sent to me via facebook, reading the Internet, and nursing the monumental zit that the universe gave me as a birthday present.

7. Finally showered at around 2.

8. Watched an episode of Dr. Phil on the dangers of texting while driving.

9. Went to dinner with my hubs at Magianno’s for what was probably our last date for a while.

10. Came home to watch National Treasure: Book of Secrets and marveled at how old Nicolas Cage is.

11. Got my toenails painted by a very sweet and accommodating husband.

12. Read a little and fell asleep by 11:30.

Aside from the freak outs and the tension cry, it was a pretty good day.

Brain dump v.11

etc. — Valerie on October 21, 2008 at 10:12 am

(Others)

It’s been a while since I’ve done one of these, but my thoughts are so disconnected right now there’s no chance of a coherent post. So we’ll go with this.

I’m starting to think this kid will never move down. I’m taking lots of walks and doing lots of squats. I have no idea if this will help anything, but it makes me feel productive.

Paul Goldman is out of the Richmond mayoral race. I wasn’t convinced he could win, but I will miss his spunk.

My birthday is on Thursday. I honestly haven’t thought about it much because I’m a bit more focused on someone else’s birthday.

Wife Swap might be my new favorite show.

The woman in the office across the hall from me has the most annoying cell phone ring ever. Even more annoying than the ring? The shouting conversations she has once she answers the phone.

I’m mildly obsessed with the details of Madonna and Guy Ritchie’s divorce.

This makes me laugh so hard that it might make me go into labor. Thus, I will watch it on repeat.

Weekend Wrap up

weekend wrap up — Valerie on October 19, 2008 at 6:52 pm

Friday: Work. Froze in the office. Lunch with my mom. More work. Home around 4. Off to run errands and try to find something to cover my huge belly for the two weddings on Saturday. Home to putter, watch Wife Swap, and Supernanny. Went to Ipanema to pick up Ross. Home and to bed.

Saturday: Slept until I woke up. Cuddling and TV in bed. Up to Costco for quick hot dog lunch. Over to Henrico Doctor’s for the hospital tour. Saw the teeny tiny babies in the nursery and got very excited. Quick stop at Target for some necessities. Home around 3:30 to shower  and get ready for the first wedding at 5. Stopped to look up directions to this first wedding and realized it was an hour away. Freaked out. Managed to get ready in approximately 3 seconds. Luckily Ross drove so I could put on makeup in the car. Made it to the wedding in plenty of time. Great wedding, good chats. Had to head out early to make it to the next wedding. Stopped by the house real quick. Left again. Went over to Manchester for wedding #2. Saw friends from high school and had a great time. Left around 10:30 because my feet were about to kill me. Home to take a bath. Discovered bathtub leaked all over the kitchen floor. Exploded with the fire of a thousand suns. Cleaned up the mess. Back upstairs to bed to watch The Office and go to sleep.

Sunday: Up around 8:30. Breakfast. Shower and off to serve the homeless. Left early to go run the bulletins for church. Home for a quick rest. Church. Early birthday dinner at the Hill Cafe with the inlaws. Home to rest now and enjoy some baby kicks.

Have a great week!
