I don’t get it

baby love, dammit, etc. — Valerie on August 15, 2008 at 5:22 am

You would think what with the stress of selling and buying a house finally being over, I would have experienced a nice, solid sleep last night.

Not so much.

After going to bed at 10:30, I woke up at 4 ready to go.

I like to think of this not as a result of my insane tendency to obsess over details like where we will put all of our furniture in the new house and more as a blessed event in which the Good Lord is preparing me for being awoken by the squawks and screeches of a delightful newborn in a few short months.

It’s going to be a long day.

The old house was sold as of 1:30 this afternoon.

The new house was bought as of 4:30 this afternoon.

I am so tired I can’t believe it. I’m sure my levels of uselessness will be astounding for the next few days.

I currently have two new loves of my life: PODs and our mortgage guy (If you want his name, email me and I’ll give it to you. Talk about hustling. He made what normally happens in two months happen in two weeks.)

This will mark poor Ross’s third night of sleeping on floors. He spent Tuesday and Wednesday sleeping in the old empty house with the dogs. Tonight he will sleep in the new empty house, also with the dogs (who are thoroughly confused and probably completely scarred, what with all the back and forth over the last few days). Meanwhile, I’ve been residing in a lovely guest room (let’s be honest, it’s more like a suite) at my in-laws’ house with my own bathroom, TV, and lots and lots of pillows.

I drove back and forth between my in-laws’ house and other various locations for a total of about six times today. I think I’ve used as much gas in one day that I did all of last month.

I have no clue what day it is.

Our new front door automatically locks when it shuts. I predict several incidents of me locking myself out of the house while the new baby is left inside.

Weekend Wrap up

weekend wrap up — Valerie on August 10, 2008 at 6:15 pm

Friday: Work. Got good news about the house. Home. Dinner with the in-laws. Home to putter and off to bed.

Saturday: Up early to start packing everything we own. Lunch. More packing. Realized the contractors doing repair work on our house messed up our Internet and cable. More packing. Nap. Off to Sears Scratch and Dent to look for a fridge. Made a trip to Home Depot to look there, too. Went to the gym to work off frustrations. Picked up semi-healthy dinner from Ukrop’s. Watched a zillion episodes of Smallville on Ross’s computer. To bed.

Sunday: Up to putter. Out to get lunch and shop for fridges some more. To church early to let people in. Church service. Picked up dinner. Watching more Smallville. To bed soon. Ready for Thursday.

The POD is delivered tomorrow. Pray for lots of space on the street.

Allowing myself to be excited

etc., life — Valerie on August 8, 2008 at 5:17 pm

After the constant uphill battles, I’m starting to feel like I can say that we will be moving into our new house next week.

There were issues with appraisals and inspections that made me start to think that maybe this wouldn’t happen. But the appraisal issues got figured out this week and today a structural engineer confirmed that everything is good to go with the new house.

So, save any issues that could come up with paperwork, on Thursday we will be saying goodbye to this house and taking position of the house we will call home for a long time, the house we will bring our babies home to.

It’s starting to feel really, really good.

Richmond’s Worst slash Best list

etc., favorite things — Valerie on August 7, 2008 at 6:15 am

RVANews has commenced with it’s second annual rebuttal to Richmond Magazine’s Best & Worst list. Or as I like to call it, the “WTF, Richmond Mag?”

Nominations started yesterday and go through the 17th. Go forth and opine.

(I should also note that my good friend The Suze composed this article, and I must say, she was on fire with this one. ON FIRE.)

26 weeks

baby love — Valerie on August 6, 2008 at 6:43 pm

I had my 26 week appointment today. It was delightfully uneventful and consisted of me making the usual urine deposit into a cup, getting my blood pressure taken, getting weighed, and listening to the heartbeat for about 10 seconds.

I went in prepared to ask all kinds of “informed pregnant woman/parent” questions pertaining to things like circumcision, pediatrician recommendations, and perineal massages (yeah, go ahead and click that one), but I just couldn’t muster up the energy to talk about any of those. I just needed a nice, quick, solely positive conversation that ended with “Ok, everything looks great. Keep it up!”

I go back on September 3rd for my 30 week appointment and then I start going every two weeks. In the meantime, we have our follow-up ultrasound with the prenatal specialist and I get to endure the fabulous gestational diabetes screening. We’ll get another ultrasound (bringing our grand total to 6) with my regular doctor at 32 weeks. Soon after that, I’ll start going every week.

Although life in general has been hectic and stressful, the pregnancy has been pretty enjoyable lately. I’ve got quite the active little friend here, and it’s really hard to stay pissed off or annoyed with anything when your thoughts are interrupted by a sweet little elbow or foot jabbing you in the ribs.

Ross spent some time reading some science fiction to the baby last night. Either the kids loved it or REALLY hated it because there was much kicking.

I don’t have a “real” picture of the belly because Ross takes them, and I’ve seen him for about 15 minutes in the last two days. Maybe this weekend, kids.

Some good news

friends — Valerie on August 5, 2008 at 7:51 pm

Enough mopes. Time for good stuff…

Two of our very best friends have finally decided to get hitched.

I mean, how can you be bummed after great news like that?

What was that noise? Oh, it was just me crumbling into a million pieces, that’s all.

dammit — Valerie on August 4, 2008 at 9:23 pm

This whole selling and buying of houses thing is proving to be quite the uphill battle, one I just won’t speak of because it will either make me cry or cause my head to explode from how a-holish people can be.

Meanwhile we had round 2 of our Baby Basics class tonight. This one involved discussions about things like circumcision, vaccinations and general care and feeding of infants. My chest tightened with each topic and I repeatedly had thoughts of “I’m not sure I can do this.”

And now I’m seriously considering giving the dogs away. Or just leaving them on the side of the highway. Or in the middle of it.

Weekend Wrap up

weekend wrap up — Valerie on August 3, 2008 at 5:10 pm

Friday: Home late. Took a quick nap while waiting for Ross to get home. Went to pick up dinner. Watched The Eyes of Tammy Faye (yeah, that’s right) while starting the task of packing. To bed late.

Saturday: Up around 8. More cleaning and packing. Dealt with house stuff because that’s all we do at the moment. Ending up having to miss a blogger meet-up in DC because of house stuff. Got to have a nice visit with Matt and Maura. To bed around 11.

Sunday: Up for laundry and packing. Nursed Shooter through an epic seizure. Met some family for lunch. Home for a quick rest. To church. Home for more packing. To bed early I hope.

Think good thoughts for us. We’re in the home stretch. We just need things to not fall apart. Sigh.
