The American Heart Association would be so proud

Ross went to a Halo party on Friday with a bunch of boys. Video games + bunch of boys = the need for phenomenally gross food. Hence the need for bacon candy.

Here’s Ross, clutching the spoils of his fat/sugar escapade, readying himself to share the bounty with his Halo comrades.

Meanwhile, I was busy figuring out his final arrangements, as a heart attack is not too far away.

Boys vs. Girls

Ross confirmed that everything in Superbad is pretty accurate when it comes to the thought processes and conversations of teenage boys. Sadly, I feel that a film documenting those of teenage girls would be infinitely less funny and would kind of make you want to die.

Zappturday: On the subject of eating

zappturday — Valerie on November 24, 2007 at 8:49 am

To look at Zapp, you would think that we never feed her. Ever.

To watch Zapp encounter the prospect of being fed, you would think we never feed her. Also ever.

Currently Shooter gets one scoop of food at each feeding (morning and night). Zapp, on the other hand, gets two scoops at each feeding. Below you’ll see a video of her eating. I made her wait a full two minutes after Shooter got his food, just to give you a frame of reference.

Observe:

Notice her ribs? That’s because she sucks in her stomach the entire time she eats, never chewing, constantly swallowing. You also saw her going over to Shooter to see if he had anything left over. All of this is typically followed up by a manly burp.Because of her, the dog food must be locked away - if she found it, she would eat until her guts exploded.

We conclude this chapter of Zappturday with an insanely cute photo, documenting Zapp resting up for a hard day of sleeping and being cute. Enjoy!

How I know them.

etc., friends — Valerie on November 24, 2007 at 12:05 am

Most of the blogs I read regularly were found via other people’s blogrolls. I find it fascinating to see who knows who and from where. I’ve been able to piece together some relationships, but would love to know how the connections happened. So, in an effort to inspire others to do so, I’m going to do a rundown of my blogroll and say how I know these people. You should do the same. BTW, I’m not linking all of them because you can find them if you just look to your right.

A Very Small Couch - I went to high school with her.

Alicia - I met her through her husband who knew my husband.

Alynda from Australia - I started reading her blog because she was linked on Love is Blonde.

Amalah - She’s famous and everyone else reads her, so I read her, too.

Andi de Nuevo Mexico - She moved to Richmond to live with her awesome grandparents before she went to grad school. We met when she started going to the church that Ross and I sort of went to kind of.

Andrew - He’s my husband’s cousin. I have never met him, but we’re friends.

Awkward Things I Say to Girls - Again, high school.

Bonus Brother - He married my sister.

Bonus Sister - She married my brother.

Brother - Uh, he’s my brother.

Crazy Aunt Purl - She was linked on Jane’s blog.

Crazy Ol’ Etc. Susan - Friend of a friend and now MY friend.

Daniel - He’s married to Alicia. See above.

Definitely RA - She, too, was linked on Love is Blonde. We have a gchat relationship.

Dooce - Uh, she’s famous.

Dr. Allison - She went to college with Andi and now she dates our friend/financial advisor, Sam.

Fat Anna - We went to college together. She’s from New Jersey and she’s loud and awesome.

Haduken Hubs - I married the guy.

J in Ric - We acquired each other as Internet friends via RVAblogs.

Kellybeans! - Another one linked on Love is Blonde.

Knitting Sister - We taught together.

Literally, A Web Log - Found somehow during Internet travels.

Love is Blonde - She was found via Sarah Says and The Good Kind of Dorky.

Machew - We went to high school together, date for 5 seconds, and he was in my wedding.

Matt and Day in Prahayy - I met Day in college and fell in love with her. Then Matt stole her.

My girlfriend, Maura - She started dating our friend Matt shortly before Ross and I got married. She was at our wedding and we all fell in love shortly thereafter.

Playful Mama - She’s married to J in Ric and she makes the most beautiful babies ever.

Poetry is About Feelings - Underused vehicle for Susan’s hilariousness.

Sarah Says - Another RVAblogs treasure.

Sister - She’s my sister.

The Murphy Lady - A magical acquisition via husbands who are kind of in love with each other.

TheBossMan - That would be my boss.

Zoot - She was linked on Kellybeans and now I’m in love.

Ok, now you. And….go.

How are you spending your Friday night?

*I’m* spending the evening with the new love of my life:

It’s on loan from my lovely mother-in-law. The dog hair tumbleweeds don’t stand a chance.

My grandmother is in her mid 90s and she still remembers the name of the other soldier who was with my grandfather on the day they met over 60 years ago.

His name was Joe.

This afternoon, I spent 2 hours vacuuming just the upstairs of my house.

I just spilled an entire Diet Coke into my purse.

Now I’m watching something on the History Chanel about making cheese.

You can’t stop the rock over here, guys.

The only thing wrong with this video is that we’re not hearing The Circle of Life in the background.

A rare moment of Shooter-initiated affection.

Hmm. Well…hmmm.

I’ve been in love with Bill Nye the Science Guy ever since I saw him on VH1 showing his high school yearbook photo in which he’s nuzzling an oscilloscope. Underneath the picture was his senior quote: “With this I could, dare I say it, rule the world!”

So while I understand this woman’s heartbreak, I think she’s made herself look a tad ridiculous because, I mean, it’s Billy Nye the Science Guy.

Watch out, ladies. He only likes good dancers.
